It’s funny how a splash pad can make you think about a library.
As I sat outside at the splash pad at the Jacqueline A. Cryan Memorial Park watching my grandchildren run through the water and make new friends, I found myself thinking about another place where our community gathers—the Gordon Memorial Library.
Years ago, I brought my own children to similar places to play. Today, I’m enjoying Round Two, watching grandchildren discover the same simple joys of summer. There is something special about seeing generations enjoy the same community spaces, creating memories and connections that last far beyond a single afternoon.
As I looked around the park, I realized I was seeing many of the same things I see at the library. Children making friends. Parents visiting while keeping an eye on little ones. Grandparents spending precious time with grandchildren. A few people sitting quietly by themselves, enjoying a book or simply a moment of peace.
Gathering places matter. They help build community. They create opportunities for friendships to form and memories to be made. They remind us that we belong.
The splash pad may be a summertime destination, but the Gordon Memorial Library is here year-round, rain or shine. Whether you’re looking for a good book, a family program, a quiet place to relax, or simply a chance to connect with others, you’ll find a welcoming community waiting for you.
So while you’re enjoying your summer fun, I hope you’ll think of the library as part of it too. Stop by and see us. Along with all the services we offer, there’s always a good time to be had at the Gordon Memorial Library.
